Christmas Leftovers - Poinsettias and Dots

Another leftover mani that isn't the best. I only wore it for one day, but I thought I'd post it anyways.
I used Refresh-Mint, Ruby Pumps and Meet Me Under The Mistletoe.

This was the last of my leftover manis!

Christmas Leftovers - Red, Green, White

Here is another leftover holiday mani I did for my mom. She had seen some nail art where dots were used to make a diagonal stripe and she really wanted that design replicated. I used Ruby Pumps, Meet Me Under The Mistletoe, and Winter Wonderland.

Not my favourite Christmas mani I have done this year.

Christmas Leftovers - Lights

So I figured that since Christmas is over, I'd round up all of my leftover mani's and put them in a bunch of posts while I am still on vacation.

For this first "leftover" post I will show you a Christmas lights design that my mom requested that I do on her nails.

Not perfect, but festive!
Hope your holidays were awesome no matter what you celebrate :)

China Glaze has announced a new collection that will be available April and May of 2011. The collection is called Tronica and will have 12 new polishes. The best part is that they are all holographic!

Gingerbread Man Nail Art

Today I thought I'd show you some nail art I did a couple of days ago. This was done on my mom's nails :)

It's not perfect, but she wanted something cute. This design is similar to something i saw on YouTube.

Sorry for the lack of many pictures, my camera isn't working very well.

Happy Holidays!

China Glaze - Peace on Earth and Party Hearty

To start with, I just wanted to let you guys know that I won Zombie Claws' celebration nail art contest! This is the first nail art contest that I have ever entered, and the first I've won :)

But onto my recent mani. This is Peace On Earth, and Party Hearty, both from the collection 'Tis The Season To Be Naughty Or Nice by China Glaze. ( I really wish that the collection had a shorter name, so from now on I'll call it Naughty or Nice.)

Peace on Earth is a beautiful metallic olive colour, with a bit of gold too.
I honestly thought that this colour was ugly when I first saw it, but now it's one of my favourites!
This is one coat!
I added Party Hearty to make it a bit more festive!

As a bonus, here is a bottle picture of Party Hearty!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

"Suit Up" Tuxedo Nail Art

Some more nail art done on my mom's hands. Recently we began watching How I Met Your Mother on DVD, and it wasn't until part way through this mani that I realized what it reminded me of.

 I used:
Wet N' Wild - French White Creme
China Glaze - Little Drummer Boy
Sally Hansen - Disco Ball  Blue Rhinestone

Before Glitter

After Glitter

Celebration Nail Art

So recently I entered Zombie Claws' celebration mani contest and I thought I'd post my entry here, now that her post is up. What you are about to see isn't the best mani and I will admit that. The reason being is that it was done at around 11 p.m., I hadn't eaten since lunchtime so I was shaky, and I was in a bad mood because my hairstylist took 5 hours to do 7 foils.

Anyways, the link to her post is HERE. I would like you all to vote for whoever you believe did the best job. I don't like it when people bribe their followers to vote for them, so the choice is yours.

                                                                   LEFT HAND:

RIGHT HAND:

Left Hand:
  • Pinkie - December in my family's household gets a little bit hectic and crazy. We get into a happy daze and the time flies quickly, the swirls represent that.
  • Ring Finger - This is a Chinese symbol with a couple of meanings. It means joy, cheer, and festive.
  • Middle Finger - This is a candy cane. My mother, brother and I used to hang them on the Christmas tree when I was little, then on Christmas day we would eat them while opening our gifts.
  • Index Finger - Yin Yang is for the peacefulness of Christmas night. After all of the presents are opened and the dinner is done, we just relax.
  • Thumb - My father's side of the family is fairly religious, so the star shining represents the star of David that shone when Jesus was born.
 Right Hand:
  • Pinkie - When I was very young, my father would dress up as Santa Claus on Christmas Morning, and hand out the presents, so I painted a Santa hat.
  • Ring Finger - I painted music notes because I have always loved Christmas songs. I used to listen to them year round because they are cheerful and always put me in a good mood.
  • Middle Finger - Gifts are pretty much self explanatory. I would always unwrap them very carefully because I didn't want to rip the pretty wrapping paper.
  • Index Finger - On Christmas Eve we usually go to my father's church wearing red and green and Santa hats, and my father wears a Christmas tie.
  • Thumb - My mother loves snowmen and has lots of decorations for the winter depicting "snow families".

ENJOY!

A Few of China Glaze's Christmas Polishes

Out of the 16 colours available from China Glaze's Tis' the Season to be Naughty or Nice collection, I only got five. The first two, Mistletoe Kisses and Mrs. Claus were purchased in the Rejoice! box set (with a candle) at Sally's, Peace on Earth and Little Drummer Boy were also purchased there but on a different occasion, and Party Heart was purchased on eBay.

I have already blogged about Mrs. Claus and how I couldn't get Party Hearty at Sally's Beauty Supply HERE.

                                                   Now onto the pictures!

Mrs. Claus, Mistletoe Kisses, Little Drummer Boy, Peace on Earth, Party Hearty

I added close-ups of the polishes too, so you can see the glitter, metallic finishes, etc.
Mrs. Claus
Mistletoe Kisses
Little Drummer Boy
Peace on Earth

Party Hearty

I have only worn one of these but I am going to be using them throughout the month. I have swatches Party hearty over a TON of colours on a nail wheel and I am going to try some of those out. I also have three holiday Orly's that I will show you later.

I hope you enjoyed this post :)

My Opinion on Coty Acquiring OPI

I'm almost positive that all of you have heard about Coty acquiring OPI and there is a lot of controversy.
I am not going to put the whole official statement here but if you haven't read it yet it's HERE. This is just my personal opinion about the matter and I would absolutely love to hear you voice yours in the comments.

Obviously OPI is a popular brand, but I only have one of their polishes. Where I live in Canada, one bottle costs around 18 dollars, and I am not willing to spend that much money. The bottle I do have (which is called Holy Pink Pagoda) wasn't even purchased by me. Before I heard about the Coty deal, I was planning on purchasing two of the Katy Perry polishes when they are released, but now I am not so sure. I am mostly against animal testing, because I love animals and don't like the idea of them being hurt just so we can be beautiful.  But from what I have read, it is still unconfirmed whether or not Coty still tests on animals. The statistics that many are making reference to are somewhat outdated. I am still undecided on if I will purchase OPI products in the future, but if I get any new information, I'll let you know.

China Glaze - Mrs. Claus

This post is about a beautiful Christmas polish that is accompanied by a rant about Sally Beauty Supply. First I'll talk about the polish because it's more important.

Mrs. Claus is pink with a hint of red jelly, with pink and silver glitter. I'm not sure about the exact description, but that is just what I see. It dries quickly and is opaque with 2 or 3 coats. It is a little gritty once on the nail so I used 2 coats of top coat. I couldn't really capture the colour (my camera sucks) so if you'd like to, pleasee check out Polish Hoarder Disorder's post on it, it has a description as well HERE.

It is definitely not that red in real life.

Slightly more accurate colour here, but the flash and light behind me make it look sheer.
(Nail sticker is from eBay)

Blurry pic to show the colour and the glitter.

So now about Sally's. About two months ago I was in the store and asked the manager if she could call me when they received the China Glaze Christmas polishes, and she wrote down my name, number and info on a sticky note and taped it up. On Saturday I was nearby so I thought that I'd check in and see if they had any new products, and there was the display with only one box set left. The manager then proceeded to tell me that she had thrown out the sticky note because it didn't really matter that I wanted a specific polish, and that I could go to the other Sally's which is an hour and a half away. I really only wanted Party Hearty because it was unique and Christmas-y, but I was upset so I overcompensated and got the box set, and 3 holiday Orly's. I later decided to check eBay for Party Hearty, where most were at least 20 dollars, but luckily I found someone selling a bottle for 2 dollars and 3 dollars shipping!

Sorry for that long rant, I was just really annoyed at the time and I needed to get that off my chest.

Avon Violetta

Well it's official, I hate matte nail polish. Sure I only own two and they are both from the same company but I am not having the best luck with them. Knowing that I'd only be wearing this polish for a couple of hours, the application is sloppy and the photos aren't the best. I'll even tell you the process I used so you can tell me what I did wrong.

I had heard that applying a base coat will ruin the matte finish so I skipped that step. I applied two coats of the polish, took a picture then after a while applied a top coat.

Enjoy!

I've been MIA and Flip Flop Fantasy.

I haven't been feeling well lately so my posts have been few and far between. I have been painting my nails though and have the pictures, but unfortunately my camera hasn't been very cooperative. But on the bright side, I now own the famous Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure. I also got a few polishes from the China Glaze Tis the Season to be Naughty or Nice collection. When I post about that (probably tomorrow) I'll have a rant about Sally Beauty.

But for now, I'll leave you with a picture of my nails from the summer. This one is Flip Flop Fantasy from the China Glaze Poolside collection.

Tee hee! I really shouldn't have had an open bottle of polish sitting on the couch.

Remembrance Day Nails

So yesterday was Remembrance Day, and for it I did themed nails. They weren't really detailed, just a couple of dots to make a poppy over a white background.

I also trimmed my nails down a lot. The nail on my index finger broke really low so I cut them all.

And my camera isn't working very well so the pictures aren't the greatest.

I used some more Billie Cosmetics nail polish for this.

I know these aren't the most exciting nails but it was for an occasion.

Billie Cosmetics - Watermelon and Jovile

So I am back again with more Billie polishes, and this time it's Watermelon and Jovile. side note: jovile is the french word for jovial or joyful. Watermelon is a pale shimmery pink, and had no VNL after 1 thick coat. It is supposed to be scented like watermelons, but it just smells sugary. Jovile is more of a top coat, and in the bottle looks like a dark purple jelly with glitter. I layered the two and now it's a sparkly berry colour!

As you can see, they are very different in the bottle.

I hope you like it!

Funky Blue and Pink Nails

I'm sure that there's a better word than "funky" to describe these, but I don't know. These nails were done with one of my favourite brands, Billie Cosmetics. It's from the Dollar Giant and these polishes are amazing. They are 1 dollar, and dry almost instantly! So for this look I used the colours Blue and Pink Pansy.

I'm not sure if you can tell, but basically I painted my nails blue, and painted the tips pink. Except on the ring finger where the nail is pink with a blue tip!

The colours were tricky to photograph, and the camera kept dulling down these almost neon hues.
I turned the flash up really high to get an accurate picture.

I hope you like it!

China Glaze-Zombie Zest

To start off today's post I'd like to apologize. Sorry I've been neglecting the blog lately, I've been fairly busy. But because tomorrow is Halloween, I recently used one of my polishes from the China Glaze Awakening collection and this one is Zombie Zest!
This colour is darker in the bottle than it is on the nail.

See? Much lighter now!

Anyways, sorry again for the absence, but I'm back and will probably post again tomorrow for Halloween!
Feel free to leave a comment below telling me how you are doing your nails for Halloween.

Frankens!

Last summer I learned about frankening polishes and was amazed, so I tried it. I have only made a few but I'm proud of all of them. I need some help naming them because I want something creative and unique! Leave a comment below with any suggestion you might have!

1: This was featured in my last post. It is Wet N' Wild Fantasy Makers Confetti in Glitz mixed with clear nail polish. This one is my favourite!

2: A simple purple creme, made with navy blue, white, red, and hot pink.

3: A deep pink berry colour. Amazingly smooth application but a tad thin.

4:I'm not sure if I like this one or not. It's a pale pink with hot pink art glitter. It looks a bit lumpy in photos though.

5: A sheer purple silver with lots of small silver glittery particles. This one's great for layering.

6: A lighter version of 3 but with a little bit of clear shimmer.

In a different order but excluding 1.
L to R: 4, 5, 3, 6, 2.

So which one do you like best? Do you have any ideas for names? Please leave a comment below, I love to hear from all of you!

My Holographic Franken!

Last night I made a beautiful silver holographic franken using just Clear polish and Wet N' Wild Fantasy Makers Confettti in the colour "Glitz". Here it is!

That is 3 coats of the franken with base and top coat.

I realized afterwards that my nails match my sparkly shoes!

So now I need your help. What should I name this beautiful colour? Do you have any frankens that you're extremely proud of?

Wet N' Wild Fantasy Makers

On Hebridian Sprite Beauty's blog she mentioned a silver hologram powder sold by Wet N' Wild fantasy makers, so of course I went out and bought it. I also grabbed a little bottle of polish called Dark Shadow, which is a black with silver sparkles!

I bought a bottle of clear Wet N' Wild polish so I can franken the glitter.

Thanks for reading!

Sally Hansen Chrome Nail Makeup - Champagne

This is an oldie but goodie, and I've brought it out again to wear. It was originally my mother's, and was handed down to me a few years ago. It turns out that it was released in September 2001, and yet it is still perfectly good. It's definitely a one-coater, and dries in under a minute. I have also found that it lasts much longer without base or top coat. So here it is, Sally Hansen's Chrome Nail Makeup in Champagne!

So do you have an ancient polish that you go to in between mani's?
Let me know in the comments, I always love to hear from you!

China Glaze: Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

This polish from the Poolside collection, and is bright like a highlighter. And when I say that, I'm not exaggerating. It dries super fast and people are sure to do a double take when they see your hands. I did  find it a bit streaky at times, and it takes 3 coats to be opaque. Here are some swatches :)

L-Highlighter      R-Nail Polish
And as a bonus, I swatched the polish on a piece of paper beside a streak of highlighter!
Nail polish wins!

I hope you enjoyed this post :)
